This is the last series we have designed, it offers the marimbist a totally revolutionary concept of sound and attack. Protean, derives from the greek god Proteus and relates to the ability to easily change and mutate. This series is the sound revolution and versatility in your hands.
Protean series has been designed by ELITE MALLETS in colaboration with the professor and Soloist Nuno Aroso. It stands as an evolution of a revolutionary multi-tone mallets we first created with the Japanese series. This models are a very versatile tool to bring out every colo of your playing and your instrument. We wrap the heads with more tensioned wool to offer a clear and precise attack from the most extreme dynamics, providing simultaneously deep and fundamental tones on every register.
The difference between Protean and the Japanese series is the material used in the interior head. Protean offers a bit more attack and brightness then japanese, which compensate the little bit darker sound than the first series we made with this idea. The balance and weight between mallets is similar in all models of the series, so you can very easily mix them to create an even richer color and harmonic balance over the keyboard. Just the hardnesses relation of the ball we use changes, so all heads are similar in size and weight. Protean mallets are meant to offer the expert percussionist the perfect sound on every repertoire, from the baroque arrangements to the extreme dynamic range works from the contemporary repertoire. Wooden Shaft 38 cm. Rattan Shaft: 38.5 cm + 6€ only under order. Weight: 38/39 grs. 3 Medium-Soft/Hard Green. New concept of multitone mallets with a great versatility. The intention and the articulation of the interpreter increases the possibilities of this model giving multiple sounds, from round sounds in the lowest part of the instrument, to clear sounds in the high part. It depends on your intention when attack the note. We think this is a perfect model to start when working on the attack control, to let the students feel how many different sounds they can get with the same set of mallets playing with a different intention. It is a series with a similar idea to the Japanese series, with a more direct sound (less African).
